On the 28th of September, Matteo will be running 190 miles barefoot from Somerset to Suffolk across 8 days, to raise money for regenerative farming.
Why we are doing it
Industrial farmland occupies 70% of the UK’s landmass. What were once abundant forests and ecosystems, are now degraded, chemical monocultures. The damage to our environment and to the quality of our food that this causes is one of the greatest threats to our future.
However regenerative and natural farming methods, like those we have demonstrated at Higher Farm, are pathing a new way, where healthy, biodiverse ecosystems are producing just as much, if not more food. We believe that regenerating farmland is the single most powerful thing we can do to fix both the environmental and health crisis we face today.
What we will fund
Whilst many farmers are interested in regenerative, they struggle to transition because they do not have the funding or the know-how to begin. So we decided to create a charity that fully funds and supports farmers on this journey. There are four key elements to our regeneration process:
The result: After three years the land will be free of chemicals, will have quadrupled in biodiversity, will be sequestering tonnes of carbon, and will be producing the same, if not more food than before. Food that is clean of chemicals, higher in nutrition and that tastes much better!
